Granite has a major investment in SIM Digital. This investment has enabled SIM to acquire PS Production Services (PS).
SIM is a world-class rental facility specializing in digital production equipment and workflow services for the television and film industries and has offices across the USA, Canada and China. PS is one of Canadas largest professional motion picture and television production equipment rental houses. Through offices in Toronto, Vancouver and Halifax they supply production equipment that includes camera, lighting, grip, data management, dollies, package trucks, remote heads and cranes to the Canadian entertainment industry. Both companies support projects ranging from small independents to large U.S. productions. The combination of the two businesses brings together a full suite of complementary equipment and services that will provide television and movie production companies with one stop shopping.
The following companies represent some of the investments that have been made by Granite Partners II L.P., III L.P., IV L.P., or its predecessor firms.
Granite Partners made a major equity investment in Ecom Food Industries Corporation, based in Markham, Ontario. Ecom, established in 1986, is a primary producer of extracts, flavors, natural antioxidants and flavor enhancers and supplies their products to multinational food and beverage companies. Ecom supplies a blue chip roster of customers including many large household names. Ecom is known for its ability to offer food manufacturer’s top quality, difficult to source products and for providing superior customer service.
PS Production Services Ltd. is a key player in the Canadian production equipment rental industry for film and digital camera and lighting equipment. PS has offices in Vancouver, Toronto and Atlantic Canada. PS was acquired by SIM Digital in 2013.
The SIM Group and Chainsaw, one of the film and television industry’s leading suppliers of production equipment and post-production services, merged in June of Summer 2014. Chainsaw provides creative editorial, editorial finishing, color grading, visual effects and other services through fully-integrated, digital facilities in Hollywood.
The SIM Group merged with Tattersall Sound and Picture, a Toronto-based provider of sound editorial, ADR and mixing services to film and television productions. The move extends SIM Group’s reach into sound post production and advances its goal of providing productions with end-to-end services from the camera to the screen.
The SIM Group acquired Toronto post-production facility Pixel Underground and its associated companies FINI Films and stationEX. The move gives SIM Group the ability to deliver complete post production and media distribution services in the Toronto market; Pixel Underground is one of Ontario’s leading providers of post-production services for television including for such shows as Mayday (Nat. Geo.), Motives & Murders: Cracking the Case (Discovery), Nowhere to Hide (Investigation Discovery US) , Food Truck Face Off (Food Network) and American Pickers (History).
The SIM Group, a leading supplier of production and post-production equipment and services to the motion picture and television industry, has entered into an agreement today to merge with Post Factory NY, one of New York City’s largest independent providers of post-production services. Post Factory NY has two Manhattan facilities, comprising of 38,000 square feet, with more than 60 editing suites, two color grading suites, a DI theater and post production sound. Future plans call for further development of finishing services, both for feature films and dramatic TV series.
Granite Partners made a major equity investment in Mike & Mike’s Organics based in Woodbridge, Ontario. Mike and Mike’s is Ontario’s only exclusively certified-organic distributor of fresh fruits and vegetables, delivering more than 300 kinds of fresh fruits and vegetables including its own line of dried fruits, nuts, and seeds. Mike and Mike’s delivers to more than 150 retailers in the province including major grocery chains and many independent and national food stores.
Event Rental Group is the largest event rental company in Canada which specializes in event, wedding and party rentals in Toronto and across the GTA. Chair-man Mills acquired The Event Rental Group, creating Canada’s largest event rental company and the fifth largest event rental company in North America. The Event Rental Group operates Exclusive Affair Rentals and Advanced Tent Rental.
Granite had a major investment in Chair-man Mills. Founded in 1911, Chair-man Mills is recognized as Canada’s leader in the special events industry providing high quality table top rentals, stages and dance floors, and high quality tabletop rentals for special events held at major venues and in Canadian private homes.
Granite had a major investment in Sibley & Associates Canada’s leading disability management company. Sibley provides a wide range of insurance related services including Catastrophic Injury Management, Occupational Therapy, Vocational Rehabilitation and Kinesiology as well as independent medical evaluations. Granite amalgamated Sibley & Associates with other insurance industry service company holdings for sale.
Granite had a major equity position in King-Reed & Associates (now CKR Global) Canada’s largest and most successful private investigation firm. The company serves the corporate and insurance markets by providing insurance fraud investigations, due diligence, surveillance, employment screening, and other intelligence-gathering services.
Granite helped King-Reed’s shareholders liquefy some of the wealth in the company, maintaining some ownership, while retaining operating control. King-Reed was assisted by Granite’s financial resources in growth of the company’s services through acquisition and geographic expansion.

Granite had a significant investment in McLarens Canada (now Granite Claims Solutions), a full service national insurance claims company. The company offers comprehensive insurance claim services to local, national and international risk managers, brokers, insurance markets and public entities through a network of national offices in Canada and through representation in over eighty-three countries internationally.
Granite helped McLarens Canada’s shareholders liquify some of the wealth in the company, maintaining some ownership, while retaining operating control. Granite provided financial resources to assist McLarens Canada in growth of the company’s services through acquisition and geographic expansion.
With Granite’s assistance McLarens Canada expanded dramatically. Granite amalgamated McLarens Canada with other insurance industry service company holdings for sale.

Granite had a significant investment in Rochon Engineering, a forensic engineering and code consulting company serving clients across Canada. Rochons’ team of experienced professionals specialize in fire investigation, structural/civil engineering, motor vehicle accident reconstruction, failure analysis of mechanical and electrical systems, environmental remediation, and mould remediation. Granite helped Rochon’s shareholders liquify some of the wealth in the company, maintaining some ownership, while retaining operating control.

Granite had a significant investment in Henderson Structured Settlements of Hamilton, Ontario, a recognized leader in the Canadian structured settlement market. The company is licensed with all five major life insurance companies presently underwriting structured settlements in Canada and offers a written pledge that is unparalleled among Canadian structured settlement brokerages.

Clearwater Environmental
Granite had a significant investment in Clearwater Environmental of Mississauga, Ontario.
Granite had a major investment in General Donlee a leading diversified manufacturer of precision-machined products for the military, commercial and general aerospace industries and a specialist in the manufacture of precision-machined products for the industrial products and power generation industries.
Granite was instrumental in taking the company to the public equity market as the General Donlee Income Fund in an IPO valued at $100,000,000.
